ALL JANE NO DICK COMEDY FESTIVAL
Thursday, Oct 18th 7:30pm
ALL JANE NO DICK
All Woman Comedy Festival
at Curious Comedy Theater
5225 NE Martin Luther King Blvd
Portland, OR 97211
(503) 477-9477
What do you get when you cram a ton of funny women from around the NW (yes, Canada, too!) into a four day long women-only comedy festival?! Painful belly laughter lasting longer than ever before!
I loved meeting and getting to know the funny comics that participated with me in this 1st Annual event! Kudos to Stacey Hallal, who organized the entire festival, performed all weekend, and created a great atmosphere for women comics to connect and support each other. I especially enjoyed meeting local comics like Bri Pruett, Annie Rimmer; as well as then non-locals Marcia Belsky, Cameron Esposito, & Beth Stelling - Headliners Susan Rice & Jackie Kashian both killed it! It's going to take me four months to recover from this fun-filled female festival!!!
It may be a man's world out there, but for this whole weekend, it was ALL JANE and NO DICK!
P.S. HOW THE FESTIVAL CLOSED FOR ME: On my way home from Sat night's closing show, at about 1am, I saw a man running towards me - what is he wearing??? A football helmet? Running in a football helmet... then he gets into the light... and he's wearing NOTHING ELSE. Only in Portland!

We

Tricia Cashin, Debby Dodds, Nikki Schulak, joined me in the fun and we raised the roof!

St. Clare School Auction
Mistress (or Mastress??) of Ceremonies!
Saturday, March 10, 2012
Tiffany Center
A fabulous night full of fabulous packages and people! This school really knows how to do it "up" right - "The Year Of The Dragon" was a huge success (did you know I was born in the Year of the Diva?) and our Auctioneer, Steve Dorsey, is so fun to work with! Over $100,000 raised!
Wilson Area Arts Council (WAAC)
1st Annual Family Bingo & Game Night
MC & Bingo Caller
Saturday, March 3, 2012
Multnomah Arts Center, SW Portland
What a great event and for a great cause - 'cause kids like to do art and this event raised monies to fund grants for Wilson Area schools! We had some double and triple winners, and played Bingo games I had never heard of - "Corners"?! Lots of fun for all, including pizza & pie. I love calling Bingo - just me, a crowd, a mic, and 2 1/2 hours... what more could I want???
TIME OUT: "MOMxiety!"
Friday, March 2, 2012

We had a hoot in the hood - and my Angelina "naked leg" impression went over well! Tricia Cashin, Debby Dodds, Nikki Schulak, and Betsy Kauffman joined me in the fun and we raised the roof!

Open Mic
Tuesday, January 17th 2012
O'Connors Restaurant - "The Vault"
Meetup.com met up there!
Entertained a crowd of strangers - even to themselves! Meetup.com posted our open mic on their wall, and we were one big happy family by the end of the night... except for the one lady who didn't speak English so she didn't laugh!
TIME OUT: "Time Out Turns Three! Birthday Show"
Friday, Jan, 6, 2012
Curious Comedy Theater
NE Portland, Oregon
Sold Out: 120
Our best show ever AND cake! A great line up - Jacki Kane, Tricia Cashin, Carmen Trinece, Betsy Kauffman, myself and newcomer Kelly Wilson! Everyone rocked! My parents were there - and I only embarrassed them "a little"! I could hear my brother's famous laugh all night. They were glad they got to see the "big show" and all the fun we've been having - they came all the way from California, where people have tan lines, not vein lines.
How can you beat belly laughs and cake, too?
TIME OUT: "Suck It Martha! The Holidaze Are Near"
Friday, Dec 1, 2011
Curious Comedy Theater
NE Portland, Oregon
120 laughing guests
Wow, what a night! A sold out crowd (AGAIN!) and all the performers rocked it! I had fun sharing why the holidays are like mammograms...
"Bossypants" Book Club
Special Guest Speaker
Wednesday, October 26th, 2011
Lake Oswego, Oregon
26 years of booking by 20 really wonderful ladies!
This book club began that long ago and has recorded every book they've ever read - 12 a year! I can't even count that high! Sheree invited me to address their group as the resident female comic, well, because, and I quote: "Tina Fey was busy, so I was able to get another comedian to be our special guest for the October meeting... Joanie has already read "Bossypants" (handy), and says her background in TV before she became a mom helped her to relate on a personal level to some of Tina's experiences." That group couldn't have been more enjoyable - so you should keep me in mind to do the same for your book club, just in case you read the book I just finished, "The Help". Disappointing - I thought it was about how I could get some help shuttling my kids around Portland.
Neighborhood House Fundraiser
"Old School: Parenting From The Retro Zone"
Saturday, Oct 22, 2011
7:30 pm - $18 advance/$20 door

100 guffawers
This was a wonderful event - an opportunity for service as well as fun! Development Director, Laura Atkinson, produced a smooth ride at the Multnomah Arts Center - and Betsy Kauffman, Debby Dodds, and our fearless leader, Jacki Kane, all rocked the house! Lots of local supporters of Neighborhood House were in attendance - and they brought their toilet paper, too!
TIME OUT: "Back to Old School: Parenting from the Retro Zone"
Season Opener!
Friday, Sept 30th, 2011
Curious Comedy Theater
NE Portland, Oregon
Wow, what a night! A great line up - with some retro styles thrown in for fun! Jacki had the June Cleaver look rockin', and Amy Milstein taught me all I ever wanted to know about "The Rabbit" (she also taught my son, who was there!). Debby Dodds shared more embarrassing personal outings, and Tricia Cashin and Carmen Trinece rocked the house with their own comedy styles! It was a huge success, and a great way to start off the new season. I was sure to share my favorite parenting style: Hypocrite Parenting; oh, and my Mother's favorite parenting tool: the playpen.

"LOVE BIG: LIVE TIRED"
February 19, 2011

The Ladie's Tea at St. Joe's was a hoot - those ladies sure know how to serve it up! Dessert first... and second... and last! Even a fruit soup - what a time! And it was great being in a large group of Catholic women - and 10 Knights of Columbus... the men finally got to see what happens at a "ladies" tea - I hope they know the code... "What happens at the Tea, stays at the Tea" :)
"TIME OUT! The Mother of All Comedy Shows"

There's nothing like doing a shrunken libido show in front of your husband - and your 16 year old son. Another page in his therapy scrapbook for sure! The crowd was awesome, and so were Jacki Kane, Jillian Starr, Gretchen, & Carmen Trineece. Do you know what really gets me in the mood? Neither do I...
TIME OUT! Open Mic

Yes, there was ice. But there was also an 80th birthday!!! If Ursula can bring her whole extended family out for laughs in an ice storm, who are we to deny them entertainment!? Fellow Time Out Moms Jillian Starr and Betsy Kauffman braved the weather and performed with me, along with a newcomer, Kelly Wilson, who did a great job! (And she came here uphill, on crutches, through ice and snow, from Milwaukie! Just kidding - no crutches)

TIME OUT! The Mother of All Comedy Shows "Suck It, Martha! Down with Perfection and Holidays in General"
Friday, November 5 - 7:30 pm
Curious Comedy Theater
Sold out House - 150
Closing the show to a full, fun house, after 5 rockin' comediennes: PRICELESS! I got to share what Mammograms and holidays have in common: they both are a lot of pressure, they come every year, and men never have to do them. Martha Stewart is the Anti-Feminist, by the way. She tricks us into staying in the kitchen longer, cooking extensively, ironing creatively. I want to invite Martha over to my house so I can watch her stroke out on my floor. Which, I am sure, she would do just PERFECTLY.
MOPS - Lake Oswego
River West Church
November 3rd, 10 am
50 Preschool Moms
Wow! Performing for like-minded, different-bodied (they still have their waists!) Mothers of Preschoolers was so much fun! These gals have it going on; they meet twice a month and get a break from their little ones while having guest speakers, and I had the privilege of kicking off their year! Laughter before noon - what a way to start the day!
TIME OUT! Open Mic
Tuesday, October 12th
O'Connors Restaurant - "The Vault"
Portland, OR
Fun! A dad, Greg, took the mic with a great story about Sandra Day O'Connor! It's not often you hear a good one about a Supreme Court Justice! And newcomer, Muriam, told us all about being Jewish and married to a German - there's humor there, too! Plus we had Gretchen from Comedy Sportz join us - it was a night full of performers!
"That's Not Funny"
Portland State University
Womens Resource Center
Food For Thought CafeOctober 8th
120 people
A Stay in the Minivan Mom can be a Feminist!
Great crowd at the Women's Resource Center! We had a WRC at my college, too: it was a tampax machine in the bathroom. Over 120 people gathered for a hilarious show featuring some seasoned female performers. I loved performing with these awesome women, and raising money for this important center for women.
TIME OUT! Open Mic
Tuesday, September 14th
O'Connors Restaurant - "The Vault"
Portland, OR
This just happened to be Joe & I's 19th wedding anniversary - and it was a great way to celebrate! The audience got to help us RE-NEW our vows, with a whole NEW set of them - the ones I SHOULD'VE taken that day so long ago! Five funny ladies entertained the full house - if you haven't been yet, you're missing a free fun night! And a shout out to Don - who I think is pretty much a "regular" at O'Connors - he returned to watch us for his nightcap. His review: "Pure genius!" We'll take it!
TIME OUT! Open Mic
Tuesday, August 10th
O'Connors Restaurant - "The Vault"
Portland, OR
We got to play "Open Mic" (Wendy Bax, Jacki Kane & I) to a full room, including some people who weren't even related to us! I shared all about being "Gravitationally Challenged" and why my Dr. says I shouldn't lose weight, because being this fluffy really helps me not break any bones when I tumble down staircases. Which I do often. We did the Q & A panel again, and helped many people with more completely useless but entertaining advice.
BIRTHDAY ROAST
June 12th
Lake Oswego, OR
Have you ever been roasted in front of 50 of your closest friends? There's no birthday treat quite like it! Greg was a great sport and his friends were a rocking crowd! Celebrating 40 never felt better... when I turn 40 I am for sure doing this !!
TIME OUT! Open Mic Tuesday, June 8th
O'Connors Restaurant - "The Vault"
Portland, OR
Nice crowd at O'Connors! We got to play "Open Mic" (Wendy Bax, MK Hoenstine & I) and my Mom & Dad were in the house (all the way from California!). Having a mic in that situation can be very valuable... almost better than family therapy. We did Q & A panel again, which is icing on the therapy cake!
Portland Rose Festival
June 4th
Waterfront Village
Portland Oregon
Thousands
What can you say about a muddy waterfront carnival that hasn't already been said? How about "FUN FUN FUN"!? The crowd was receptive, no one got electrocuted, and the sailors were in their whites. Can someone tell me how they keep the mud off of them?
Rave in the Nave
Saturday, May 22, 2010 - 7:30 p.m.
Christ United Methodist Church
Portland, Oregon150 in the house
What do you get when you bring together funny moms, a church sanctuary, and free cookies? Wow - Rave in the Nave ended up being a HOT show! Who knew this kind of crowd could howl? Give it up to the Methodists in the house! And a shout out to the Blaskowskys for finding Cedar Mill on the map :) Really, this could have been our best show ever - all the Time Out women were on FIRE: Betsy, Jacki, Wendy, Kristina, and even me: Watch for us at this event again next year!
TIME OUT! The Mother of All Comedy Shows
"Mom-Xiety: This Isn't Your Mother's Angst"
Thursday, May 20th - 7:30 pm
Curious Comedy Theater
60 in the house
A pretty full crowd for a school night! Great laughter - even pulled some people in off the street! It was definitely worth all the stress eating I did before and ON stage... wow, Haagen Daaz for dinner once a year is good for the soul. Kudos to the Rossmans for their continued support and daring to sit at a front table! Thanks to the crowd for helping me more than therapy could... and I will keep on writing in the kids therapy books... remember, we are working on our future reality show: "Dr. Quinn, and Medicated Woman"!
TIME OUT! Open Mic
Tuesday, May 11th
O'Connors Restaurant - "The Room Next Door"
Portland, OR
Another primarily hilarious St. Clare crowd provided a full house and great energy for Jillian, Betsy, Kristina, Jacki, myself, and newbie Mary Kay Hoenstine, who performed for her first time and killed it! My favorite part was the Q & A after the break, where Jacki, Kristina and I conducted a parenting panel, answering questions from the crowd in our witty ways - very fun for us to play with each other and I think the crowd will be taking home some of our invaluable advice. Look for well behaved children everywhere. And smiling parents.
KIDFEST
Saturday and Sunday, April 24th and 25th
Portland Expo Center, Oregon
Thousands of unsuspecting victims
Kidfest was a hoot! Met a lot of nice families and even talked some into taking a seat and taking some comedy in! Radio Disney was a bit of a competition, but we had candy to pass out!!
TIME OUT! The Mother of All Comedy ShowsCurious Comedy Theater
Thursday, April 22nd - 7:30 pm
Bridgeport Comedy Festival
Featuring Dad comedian, Jason Nash
Had a great time grabbing laughs at Curious with the gang - and the added treat was meeting and performing with Jason Nash - he killed it! Can't wait to see him on "Last Comic Standing" in June. He loved our theater and thought we were a great group of Moms - especially since we took care of the kids all day AND remembered our sets that night!
O'Connors
The Vault (the room "next door")
April 13, 2010
Great Crowd!
Ok, there's something I like about good food and good belly laughs - and no cover charge! The audience gave it up for 5 of the Time Out "Board" members: Jacki, Wendy, Jillian, Betsy and I. O'Connors is such a great location (in Multnomah Village) and intimate setting for comedy - always fun to get our laugh on!
TOM'S 40th ROAST
Saturday, April 3
Portland, OregonTom's wife threw him a surprise 40th and invited friends to help him "mourn" the "passing of his youth"! The scene was decked out as a funeral home, and I played the Eulogist - and Tom got roasted for wasting his youth away by climbing mountains and wrestling in tights. Lots of laughs - here's what Tom's still youthful wife had to say:
Birthday cake: $20
Decorations: $75
Pictures: $40
Comic roast your husband: PRICELESS!ALL ABOUT JOANIE

Lots of fun in OC! 45 minutes all about me... there is a heaven on earth. The women were delightful and it was fun to share some Portland Mom humor in SoCal. Plus my Mom, Aunt and close cousins Kathy and Chrissy got to be part of my "entourage" and see me perform. Not one baby cried, but hopefully someone peed their pants in laughter.

Wow! Ellen brought her friends, and we rocked it! O'Connors had the room looking all spify: fresh flowers on the tables can make any girl feel like a Queen. The laughter drew passers by in, and we practically steamed up the front windows we were so HOT!

We had some double and triple winners, and played Bingo games I had never heard of - "Corners"?! Lots of fun for all, including pizza & pie. I love calling Bingo - just me, a crowd, a mic, and 2 1/2 hours... what more could I want???

Our best show ever AND cake! A great line up - Jacki Kane, Tricia Cashin, Carmen Trinece, Betsy Kauffman, myself and newcomer Kelly Wilson! Everyone rocked! My parents were there - and I only embarrassed them "a little"! I could hear my brother's famous laugh all night. They were glad they got to see the "big show" and all the fun we've been having - they came all the way from California, where people have tan lines, not vein lines.
How can you beat belly laughs and cake, too?

And it was great being in a large group of Catholic women - and 10 Knights of Columbus... the men finally got to see what happens at a "ladies" tea - I hope they know the code...

Wow! Performing for like-minded, different-bodied (they still have their waists!) Mothers of Preschoolers was so much fun! Laughter before noon - what a way to start the day!

Great crowd at the Women's Resource Center! We had a WRC at my college, too: it was a tampax machine in the bathroom.

What can you say about a muddy waterfront carnival that hasn't already been said? How about "FUN FUN FUN"!? The crowd was receptive, no one got electrocuted, and the sailors were in their whites. Can someone tell me how they keep the mud off of them?

What do you get when you bring together funny moms, a church sanctuary, and free cookies? Wow - Rave in the Nave ended up being a HOT show! Who knew this kind of crowd could howl? Give it up to the Methodists in the house! And a shout out to the Blaskowskys for finding Cedar Mill on the map :) Really, this could have been our best show ever - all the Time Out women were on FIRE: Betsy, Jacki, Wendy, Kristina, and even me: Watch for us at this event again next year!

Plus my Mom, Aunt and close cousins Kathy and Chrissy got to be part of my "entourage" and see me perform. Not one baby cried, but hopefully someone peed their pants in laughter.
