This class brings together Joanie's decade of experience as a stand up and her veteran (= long, long ago) Hollywood television comedy career:
As a stand up, Joanie trained hundreds of years ago in Los Angeles under Judy Carter, author of The Comedy Bible. This was before the Bible was even written! She made her stand up debut at the infamous “Igby’s” comedy club in Santa Monica, Ca. Years later when the fourth kid turned two, she suddenly realized she needed to get on stage again (NEED.ESCAPE.NOW.) so she spent many years fleeing from her kids to perform in Portland’s hit “Time Out: The Mother of All Comedy Shows”, a Momedy, at Curious Comedy Theater. It was when that escape route ended that Joanie began co-creating/producing SW Portland’s sellout comedy “Spilt Milk”, with another Time Out regular, Betsy Kauffman.
Joanie has performed all over the west coast, including Harvey’s Comedy Club in Portland, The Legendary Ice House in Pasadena, Ca, Liquid Laughs in Boise, Idaho, and more. She’s performed in many festivals, including the inaugural “All Jane No Dick” women’s comedy festival in Portland, the Mutiny Radio Festival in San Francisco, the Burbank Comedy Fest in California, the Women’s Comedy Fest in Eugene, and the Idaho Laugh Fest in Boise.
Joanie Quinn has a Communication & Fine Arts degree from Loyola Marymount University, emphasizing Television Writing. Her early Hollywood career included working with Daytime Emmy Winners “The Richard Simmon’s Show” (really!), “All Star Blitz” game show (Merrill Heatter Productions), and TBS television. Joanie has worked in sitcom writer’s rooms for Disney Studios, TriStar, Columbia Television and more, including Michael Jacob Production’s "My Two Dads" and Jim Henson’s "Dinosaurs", where Joanie worked with future television creators and Emmy winners Chuck Lorre (“Big Bang”), Rob Ulin (“Middle”), and Michael Jacobs (“Boy Meets World”).
